The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation compiles information from eligible Ontario voters to create a Preliminary List of Electors for municipal and school board elections. Voter Information

By voting in the municipal election, you are selecting representatives who will determine the priorities and direction of the Town. You have the right to vote in municipal elections in the Town if on election day: 

  • You are a Canadian citizen;

  • You are 18 years of age or older; and

  • You reside in, own, or are a tenant of land in the Township of Fauquier-Strickland, or are the spouse of such a person.

Candidate Nomination Information

Section 33(4) of the Municipal Elections Act states that nominations for the municipal election can be filed with the Clerk's Office as follows: 

  • On any day on or after May 1, 2022 in the year of the regular election that is before nomination day, at a time when the Clerk's Office is open; or

  • On nomination day, August 19, 2022 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Qualifications & Training Opportunities

The qualifications required to be a candidate for election are the same as the qualifications to vote.

Key Dates

May 2, 2022 – Nomination and Registration Periods Begin

This is the date that candidates and third parties can submit their nomination documents and begin registration with the Town.

August 19, 2022 – Nomination Day

This is the last day that candidates can submit nomination documents (closes at 2 p.m.) *subject to the Clerk confirming that there are enough nominations filed for each office to be filled.

Any candidates that wish to withdraw their nomination also must do so by 2 p.m.

August 19, 2022 at 2pm to November 14, 2022 at 11:59pm – ‘Lame Duck’ Period

Under specific circumstances, Council’s powers may be restricted during this period.

October 24, 2022, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. – Voting Day

Electors are able to vote at any voting location in the Town. Additional details on voting locations will be available in the near future.

November 15, 2022 to November 14, 2026 – Term of New Council
